John Hurford HonSWAc, SGFA

John Hurford is a North Devon farmer who became a full-time artist in 2001. An honorary member of the South West Academy and a member of the Society of Graphic Fine Arts. Hurfordʼs distinctive work has captivated audiences since the 1960s, appearing in countless magazines and books. His early psychedelic art found a home in the renowned collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, and his pieces have been exhibited in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, The Whitney Museum in New York, and The Tate Gallery in Liverpool. He draws and paints the natural world he finds around his farm in ink, pencil and acrylics on canvas. His graphic work includes album covers, music posters, books and graphic novels. In 2026 he painted a large mural in the square of his home town Chulmleigh, North Devon.
